MPs Applaud Judiciary’s Impressive Construction as President Museveni Set to Commission
President Museveni will commission the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal buildings on February 9, 2024. Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana disclosed this during a meeting with MPs. Chairperson Rwakoojo praised the impressive construction, emphasizing value for taxpayers’ money.
President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to officially commission the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal buildings on February 9, 2024. The disclosure was made by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana, during a session with Members of Parliament on the House Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Chairperson Robina Gureme Rwakoojo (Gomba West), leading the MPs on a guided tour of the new buildings, expressed gratitude for the impressive construction and commended the Permanent Secretary for ensuring the work was executed with precision. She reaffirmed the Committee’s unwavering support for the Judiciary, emphasizing that the new courthouses exemplify value for taxpayers’ money and suggested that Parliament draw insights from this accomplishment.
The Committee members were pleased with the efficient utilization of space. Dr. Bigirimana, in his role as the Accounting Officer, emphasized his responsibility to demonstrate the prudent use of allocated funds. Chief Registrar Sarah Langa Siu conveyed appreciation to the Committee for their visit and thanked them for their continuous support.
In attendance were Under Secretary Maureen Kasande, Judiciary Public Relations Officer James Ereemye Jumire Mawanda, and Commissioner of Engineering and Technical Services, Eng Dr. Christopher Ebal. The construction, executed by Seyani Brothers at a cost of sh63.9b from the government, includes two-basement floor parking for 226 vehicles. These buildings will serve as customized courthouses equipped with modern courtrooms, justices’ chambers, a gym, a restaurant, and other amenities, reflecting a historic milestone since the groundbreaking ceremony on December 5, 2019.
