Namboole Set to Host 2024, 2025 Editions of Rugby Africa Cup

Uganda is set to host the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Rugby Africa Cup at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The announcement follows Africa Rugby’s acceptance of Uganda’s bid, with renovations at Namboole accommodating various sports disciplines.

Uganda will host the 2024 and 2025 Editions of Rugby Africa Cup at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

This was revealed by the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang while inspecting the Namboole Stadium which is currently under renovation. The new stadium takes care of other sports disciplines such as rugby, volleyball, netball, etc.

Ogwang was in the company of the President of Uganda Rugby Union, Godwin Kayangwe.

“Africa Rugby has unanimously accepted Uganda’s bid to host the 2024 and 2025 Editions of Rugby Africa Cup at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole,” Ogwang tweeted.

This was confirmed in a letter dated 19 February 2024, written by the President of Africa Rugby, Herbert Mensah to Uganda Rugby Union.

“I am pleased to inform you that Rugby Africa Executive, following recommendations by the Rugby Committee, unanimously granted your union the rights to host the two editions of the tournament,” the letter reads.

On 28 October 2023, Uganda Rugby Union wrote to Africa Rugby expressing interest in hosting the two tournaments.

Ogwang said Namboole is now ready to host both local and international games.

“Note that the current renovations at Namboole have taken care of several other sports disciplines, including Rugby and I am glad to report that we are ready to start hosting both local and international games,” he said.

He thanked Kayangwe for initiating the bid and further thanked President Yoweri Museveni and the Minister of Education and Sports, First Lady Janet Museveni for their unwavering support.
