The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and its soccer team are preparing for a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2023–2024 season. Lt Gen James Mugira, the managing director of NEC and patron of the NEC football club, is committed to provide the finest competition for the supporters as they face off against some of the top clubs in the league yesterday, September 21, 2023.
Being a part of the government, NEC boasts financial strength that can rival prominent clubs like Vipers SC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, Express, and others in the league. Lt Gen Mugira expressed his confidence in their ability to compete at the highest level and make their presence felt in Ugandan football in an exclusive interview.
In an exclusive interview, Lt Gen Mugira emphasized their commitment to excellence and the ambitious goal of challenging the best teams in the league. NEC FC has been busy signing new players to strengthen their squad, with the latest acquisition being Owiny Ronald Ogenga, a talented defender from Kitgum district.
To further elevate their game, NEC FC has made significant changes in their coaching staff. On June 16th, they announced the appointment of Hussein Mbalangu as the Head Coach. Mbalangu brings a wealth of experience in football, coaching, and management at both local and international levels. He has previously coached and promoted Arua Hills FC, winning the FUFA Big League trophy, and managed Mbarara City FC and Black Power FC in the StarTimes Premier League. His international experience includes coaching Azam FC in Tanzania and Budir FC in Somalia.
Assisting Mbalangu in his coaching duties will be Dudu Bosco, who has been appointed as the Assistant Head Coach. Bosco’s vast experience in football management comes from his previous roles at Calvary FC, Onduparaka FC, and KCCA FC U17, where he doubled as a scout. He has also been the technical director for various teams, including Paidha Black Angels FC and Alnasir EC Juba in South Sudan. Notably, Bosco is the reigning champion of the FUFA Drum with West Nile Province.
For their home matches, NEC FC will be playing at the iconic Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, a decision that reflects their aspirations to compete on a grand stage. In the previous season during the FUFA Big League campaign, they showed their potential by finishing third, securing promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
NEC as an organization was established in 1989 through an Act of Parliament, with a primary focus on serving as the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and the Uganda Defence Forces. Their objective is to produce goods and services that benefit the Defence Forces and the general public. They undertake commercial ventures through subsidiaries and joint ventures, contributing to various sectors of the economy.
As the new season approaches, the excitement and anticipation among NEC FC fans are palpable. With strong financial backing, a determined leadership team, and a talented squad, the club is set to make their presence felt in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. The combination of experienced coaching, new player acquisitions, and a move to the Phillip Omondi Stadium all point to a promising season ahead for NEC FC. Football enthusiasts across Uganda eagerly await the unfolding drama and battles on the pitch as NEC FC seeks to make its mark in Ugandan football history.
