New NEC Board of Directors Inaugurated with Focus on Development Goals
The Minister of Defence, Jacob Oboth-Oboth, urged the new NEC Board to prioritize growth and accountability at their inauguration, emphasizing their role in supporting Uganda’s development.

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth-Oboth, has urged the newly-appointed Board of Directors of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) to prioritize the corporation’s growth and long-term sustainability while maintaining a strong commitment to their statutory responsibilities.
“I expect total accountability because accountability breeds acceptance and respectability by investors for the enterprise,” stated Hon. Oboth-Oboth. “Both business prosperity and accountability are at the forefront of every corporation’s strategic thinking, planning, and activity.”
Minister Oboth-Oboth made these remarks on Tuesday 23rd July, 2024 during the inauguration ceremony of the new Board of Directors of NEC, held at its headquarters in Bugoloobi, Kampala. He tasked the Board with guiding the corporation in fulfilling its purpose of supporting the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) through activities that contribute to Uganda’s development, as mandated by the Constitution.
Established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament, NEC serves as the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF, producing goods and services beneficial to the Defence Forces and the general public through its subsidiaries and joint ventures.

General (Rtd) Joram Mugume, the board chairman, praised the outgoing board for their dedication and efforts, which significantly improved NEC’s performance and led to notable achievements. Lieutenant-General James Mugira, the managing director of NEC, expressed optimism that the corporation will benefit greatly from the diverse expertise of its new Board members.
“The management looks forward to working closely with the board to take NEC to greater heights,” said Gen Mugira.
The newly inaugurated board includes Gen (Rtd) Joram Mugume (Chairman), Prof. Charles Kwesiga, Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, Lt Gen James Mugira, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Maj Gen David Mugisha, Mr. Francis Kahirita Ngabirano, Eng. Isaac Musasizi, Dr. Anna Rose Ademun Okurut, Dr. Joshua Mutambi, and Mr. Hannington Ashaba.
