Opposition Youth Leaders Choose NRM for Clear Vision and Transformation
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong welcomed over 20 former opposition youth leaders to the NRM, highlighting the party’s inclusive and transformative agenda under President Museveni. The group, led by Roy Rugumayo, expressed their readiness to contribute to the party’s goals, including combating rural poverty.
Youth leaders of the National Unity Platform, Uganda Young Democrats and the Forum for Democratic Change who defected into the ruling National Resistance Movement.
“Unlike the opposition, where members are frequently engaged in conflicts without a clear agenda, the NRM under President Museveni welcomes all individuals willing to provide leadership in addressing the population’s challenges,” stated NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong on Thursday, June 13, 2024, while addressing several youth leaders.
He was engaging with over 20 young people who declared their allegiance to the NRM, having relinquished leadership roles previously assigned to them by various opposition parties.
A release from the NRM secretariat indicates that the group, hosted at the NRM party headquarters in Nakasero, was led by Roy Rugumayo, formerly associated with the NUP’s institutions desk.

Welcoming the group to the ruling party, Todwong remarked, “The decision by these dynamic youths to join the NRM is timely. They have made an excellent choice, as the NRM is the only reliable and inclusive political party with a clear vision for transforming communities.” Todwong pledged to mentor and guide the new members to become strong proponents of the party’s revolution.
He urged the group to participate in the fight against rural poverty, emphasizing that it is the duty of every patriotic citizen.
According to NRM sources, the group expressed their readiness to undertake any assignments entrusted to them by the party leadership.
“We are eager to learn and to work,” declared Rugumayo, according to the NRM release, which was also widely disseminated on the party’s social media platforms.
The NRM also released several photos from the event held in the Nakasero city suburbs.
