At Kokochaya checkpoint on the Uganda-Kenya border, off Karita-Lokales route, the Uganda Joint Security Team found 503 live rounds of ammunition.

The security intelligence networks have been pursuing two male adult suspects since May 19, 2023; one was named Kevo and the other has not yet been named. Both are residents of Kachaliba in West Pokot County.

In accordance with a statement released by the UPDF on Sunday 21st May, 2023, the rider entered the Amudat district from the Riwo-Girik side by a narrow path (panya route).

They dropped an exhibit bag carrying live rounds of ammunition as they approached the Kokochaya checkpoint and fled in the direction of West Pokot County, according to UPDF.

“Our security team continues to coordinate with Kenyan authorities in West Pokot County to apprehend the suspect. Arms and ammunition illegal dealings are unlawful acts of small arms proliferation and rearmament by wrong elements.”

The army promised Ugandans that they would never give up on carrying out border security operations to stop armed crime and gun carnage.
