Paving the Way for Uganda’s Economic Growth Through Science and Technology
Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr Monica Musenero, underscores the importance of Science, Technology, and Innovation for Uganda’s development. National Science Week 2023 is set to showcase progress in these fields.
Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Monica Musenero has emphasized that Science, Technology, and Innovation play a pivotal role in the country’s transformation agenda. She has stated that it is impossible to separate these domains from national economic development, and advanced economies are realigning their priorities to adapt to the ever-evolving landscape.
“Uganda must not remain a passive observer as global initiatives, primarily driven by our counterparts in the fields of science-led transformation, shape the future that will determine our survival,” stated Musenero.
The minister has urged Ugandans to seize groundbreaking opportunities and align themselves with global developments. These remarks were made during the press launch of National Science Week 2023, which is scheduled for November 6 to 11, this year, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
This year’s National Science Week 2023 is centered around the theme, “Uganda Tusimbudde: Our Science-led Journey Towards Socio-economic Transformation.”
During the event, participants from various backgrounds will gain a hands-on understanding of the remarkable progress Uganda has made in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Musenero emphasized the profound impact these fields can have on Uganda’s economic transformation.
The event will showcase thematic areas such as the pathogen economy, mobility, import substitution, infrastructure innovation, and more. Panel discussions, official launch by President Yoweri Museveni, and engagement with investors are part of the program.
The National Science Week 2023 concludes with a family day dedicated to exploring Uganda’s innovations, highlighting the importance of nurturing future innovators. The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, will be closing the events.
