Police Crackdown Otuke and Busia Gangs, Recover Guns, And Over Shs 20 million

In two separate police operations in Otuke and Busia districts, notorious thieves were neutralized, and weapons were confiscated. On September 25, 2023, in Busia, police pursued and fatally wounded a robber named Kudu Ashraf, alias Mr. X, recovering cash and weapons. Another arrest occurred on September 26, 2023, in Kampala, where a notorious robber, Ouni Norman Kaunda, was apprehended, and an SMG was recovered.

In two separate lethal operations, the Territorial Police in the districts of Otuke and Busia took out two infamous thieves through a shooting exchange and collected two weapons. On September 25, 2023, at around 2:30 pm, the anti-robbery squad in Busia pursued a notorious robber known as Kudu Ashraf, alias Mr. X, who had just shot and wounded Najjuko Prossy, a money changer at Arubaine Market, during an armed robbery.

Fred Enanga, a police spokesperson, verified the occurrence.

On Monday 2nd October 2023, in Kampala, he told the media that the robber was quickly apprehended by police at Maweru East “B” in the Busia region.

“He was fatally wounded during a fire exchange. An SMG with 16 rounds, cash Ugx 21,175,000/= Kshs, 612,005, and phones were all recovered pending handover to the victim. The victim was also rushed to Busia HC IV for treatment,” Enanga said.

Enanga reported that on September 26, 2023, at about 9 p.m., the Joint Anti-Robbery Team of the Police and UPDF responded to an armed robbery at Agweng Cell, Owinyo Ward, and arrested one Ouni Norman Kaunda, a notorious robber who was also wanted for gun theft.

“The police recovered an SMG with six rounds; 24 bullets were missing,” Enanga said.

According to Enanga, “We strongly believe the recovery of the two guns from the hands of violent criminals will bring some bit of peace and safety in the respective communities. Our intelligence-led operations on illegal possession of firearms remain active and ongoing.”
