President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday 15th October 2023 announced significant gains in the fight against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists following a series of successful airstrikes in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, October 14th October 2023.

According to Museveni, four ADF positions spread out at various distances from the Uganda-DR Congo border were the focus of the operation carried out by Uganda’s fighter-bombers.

“Our fighter-bombers paid a visit to the ADF terrorists at 4 different points. These points were at: 72kms, 120kms, 69kms and 130kms from the border on the Bundibugyo-Semiliki side. It seems quite a few terrorists were killed,” he said in a statement.

“As a consequence, the terrorists are running from Congo which they thought was heaven and re-entering Uganda and trying to commit some random terrorist acts,” he added.

Museveni suggested that such individuals may have been involved in the attack on a vehicle carrying onions to the market across the DR Congo border on Friday at Bweera, Kasese.

Museveni issued a warning to the populace, advising people to be on guard and report any strange or suspect characters to the nearest law enforcement.

The warning emphasized the potential for surviving ADF members to try to find refuge inside neighborhood populations, potentially endangering public safety.

Following intensified attacks by the insurgents in both countries in 2021, Uganda and the DR Congo started a coordinated operation in November 2021 with the codename Operation Shujaa to exterminate the ADF in eastern DR Congo.

Since the beginning of 2023, this is the third strike associated with the ADF rebels.

Museveni emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Ugandan government to combat terrorism and maintain national security against potential threats from extremist groups.
