President Museveni Appoints New Chief of Defence Forces and Announces Military Reshuffle.

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces, replacing Gen Wilson Mbadi. Gen Kainerugaba retains his role as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, yesterday 21st March 2024 appointed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the Chief of Defence Forces replacing Gen Wilson Mbadi, who has been appointed Minister of State for Trade and Cooperatives.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has also retains his position as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.

Gen Kainerugaba, a highly trained military officer has served in various capacities in the UPDF, including recently as Commander of Special Forces and more recently as Commander of Land Forces.

According to a statement released by the Defence spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, Lt Gen Sam Okiding has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, replacing Gen Peter Elwelu, who has been appointed as a Senior Presidential Advisor.

In other changes, UPDF Chief of Staff Land Force Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba has been moved to the position of Joint Chief of Staff. Meanwhile, Major General Leopard Eric Kyanda has been appointed as the Defence Attaché while Brig Gen David Mugisha has been promoted to Major General, and Col Aspah Nyakyikuru to Brigadier General.
