President Museveni Emphasizes Reconciliation as Key to Stability While Meeting Sudan’s Vice President
President Yoweri Museveni yesterday on Wednesday 31st May 2023, welcomed and held discussions with the Vice Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan, H.E. Malik Agar Eyre Ngamyoufa. H.E. Agar offered President Museveni a thorough picture of the present security situation in Sudan during their conversation, emphasizing the importance for ongoing efforts to bring stability to the area.
President Museveni emphasized the significance of putting an end to the fighting and working towards peace and free and fair elections. In his capacity as chairman of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, President Yoweri Museveni emphasized that the Sudanese people should have the option of selecting their own leader through a democratic process.
He also emphasized that the future of the nation should not be decided by any one person or group of people because Sudan belongs to its people.
Additionally, President Museveni urged Sudanese activists to advance peace and work to stop the present violence. He stated that if the army generals could be persuaded that peace is attainable, they would be more inclined to consent to a ceasefire since they would not be afraid of being put to death.
The meeting between President Museveni and Deputy Chairman Agar was a crucial reminder of how important democratic processes and strong leadership are to establishing peace and security in the region.
The war in Sudan must cease, the fighting troops must retreat to agreed-upon positions, elections must be held, and reconciliation must take place if there is to be an end to the fighting, President Museveni reiterated.
Using the argument that Sudan belongs to the people of Sudan, he urged the forces to allow the opportunity for the Sudanese people to choose their own leader through an election.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo and government forces led by Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan, engaged in combat last month in Khartoum.
