President Museveni Encourages Busoga MCs to Champion Wealth Creation
President Yoweri Museveni, through his representative Haji Faruk Kirunda, urged Masters of Ceremonies in Busoga to leverage their influence to support Uganda’s wealth-creation initiatives, at a gathering in Iganga.
President Yoweri Museveni has called on the Masters of Ceremonies (MCs) in Busoga to lead the region’s wealth-creation efforts, urging them to use their influence to support Uganda’s socio-economic growth. The message was delivered by Special Presidential Assistant – Press and Mobilization Haji Faruk Kirunda at a Busoga MCs’ gathering at Sikezy Hotel in Iganga District, highlighted the potential for MCs to inspire positive development in their communities.
The President addressed members of the Busoga Cultural and Events Speakers Association (BUSUSA), an organization led by Meddy Dhakaba with over 250 MCs dedicated to uniting, professionalizing, and instilling discipline within the field. Museveni encouraged MCs to raise awareness of government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are designed to empower Ugandans through poverty alleviation and wealth creation.
“Use the ceremonies to educate people on wealth creation. When people create wealth, they will be able to organize events, which you will host. If they remain poor, this will not happen,” Museveni said in his message delivered by Kirunda. The President also urged MCs to act as “ambassadors of wealth creation” by promoting peace and stability within the country.
Additionally, Museveni noted the role MCs play in guiding public opinion, cautioning that they “can build or easily break the nation.” He also criticized some National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders for failing to engage the media to communicate government successes, instead allowing opposition voices to dominate the public discourse. Museveni donated UGX 10 million to the new BUSUSA SACCO to support their activities.
Sauda Kauma Alibawo, Iganga District Woman MP, commended the President’s leadership for fostering freedom of speech in Uganda, urging citizens to use this right constructively to protect the country’s peace. People in attendance included Busoga Kingdom’s Information Minister Michael Kifubangabo, Iganga NRM Chairperson Hajji Abubakar Walubi, and local government representatives.
