President Museveni Greenlights Airport Construction in Kidepo National Park

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with a delegation from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussing the status of airport construction in Kidepo Valley National Park. President Museveni approved the project, emphasizing wildlife safety.

At State House Entebbe on Wednesday 8th November 2023, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with a delegation from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was headed by H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, the chamber’s chairman of the board of directors.

The President was briefed by H.E. Abdallah Sultan and his delegation on the status of the airport construction in Kidepo Valley National Park.

While approving the airport’s construction, President Museveni cautioned investors about the park’s wildlife safety.

Additionally, he gave the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry the assurance that they would not be subject to taxes while working on the project.

In addition, President Museveni pledged to organize the Uganda Hotel Owners Association in order to construct nearby hotels that will house travelers using the airport.

When the airport is finished, H.E. Abdallah Sultan told the President, it will have a 3,500-meter runway that can handle planes like the Boeing B777.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah established the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 1970 by Amiri decree, with the aim of actively and successfully contributing to the organization of economic life and the prosperity of the trade, industry, agriculture, digital, and professional sectors at all levels and in collaboration with the concerned establishments and bodies and local departments.

After Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Sharjah is the third most populated city in the United Arab Emirates. The metropolitan area of Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman includes the Emirate.

Attorney General Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, State Minister for Works and Transport Hon. Fred Byamukama, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Okello Oryem also attended the meeting.
