President Museveni is set to campaign in Dokolo district for NRM’s candidate in the upcoming byelection for the Woman MP seat. The campaign aims to fill the vacancy left by Cecilia Ogwal’s passing earlier this year.

President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to visit Dokolo district today Tuesday, March 19, 2024, to conduct a campaign in support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s candidate, Adongo Janet Rose Elau, who is vying for the Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament seat. This position became vacant earlier this year following the demise of Cecilia Ogwal. The byelection is set to take place on Thursday of this week.

As the incumbent chairperson of the ruling party, President Museveni will deliver speeches at two rallies: one in Dokolo North at Atabu Primary School, and another in Dokolo South at Amatiburu Primary School.

Sources within the NRM circle indicate that the President intends to extend a welcome to Dr. Grace Hannah Lalam and Rebecca Arao, both independent candidates who have withdrawn from the race in favor of supporting the NRM flag-bearer, Adongo.

Should this alignment be realized, it would reduce the pool of candidates vying to replace Ogwal to five. The remaining contenders include Sarah Aguti Nyangkori of the Uganda People’s Congress, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Adongo of the NRM, Harriet Ageno of the National Unity Platform, and Dr. Esther Akullo Obot, an independent candidate.

The primary contest for the seat revolves around three prominent candidates: Aguti of the UPC, Adongo of the NRM, and Alwoc of the FDC. Key figures from these political parties have established presence in Dokolo, actively seeking support for their respective candidates.

The byelection campaign commenced on March 14, 2024, and concludes today, March 19, with the voting scheduled for March 21.
