At the burial of Jovan Amalai Nyapidi, President Museveni’s message, delivered by MP Fredrick Angura, emphasized the need for Ugandans to embrace government programs for economic growth. He also called for unity in Tororo County amidst ongoing boundary disputes.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni urged Ugandans to actively participate in all government programs to achieve socio-economic transformation within their households and communities.

Museveni noted that in addition to the Parish Development Model and Emyooga programs, the government has introduced a new initiative under World Bank projects. This initiative aims to fund members of organized groups through various projects.

He directed community development officers at every sub-county and town council to begin sensitizing and reorganizing groups, and to identify priority projects for potential financing to aid their transition from poverty to a money economy.

The President’s message was delivered in a condolence statement read by Tororo South County MP Fredrick Angura during the burial of Jovan Amalai Nyapidi at Kapungoit village, Apokor Town Council, on Saturday, June 22.

Nyapidi, 80, was a schoolmate of the President at Ntare School before joining the General Service Unit under President Idi Amin’s government, after which he fled into exile in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nyapidi was later pardoned by the President, at the request of the former Third Deputy Premier, the late Ambassador Paul Orono Etiang, and allowed to return to the country. He subsequently served as the general manager of Uganda Blankets until his retirement.

President Museveni requested MP Angura to identify and mobilize all the families of his ex-combatants during the liberation struggle, both in Kenya and Uganda, along the Malaba River area for a meeting with him in August this year. He also made a contribution of 10 million shillings towards burial expenses.

However, Angura urged all residents of Tororo County to remain united and calm as the government is about to resolve the conflict between residents of Tororo County and West Budama over the exact location of Tororo Municipality, which has been a source of contention between the two groups.

He cautioned residents to be vigilant against those attempting to divert attention by advocating for the elevation of Tororo Municipality to city status rather than resolving the boundary issue, which has prompted the government to send a team to the Commonwealth Archives in the United Kingdom to retrieve colonial maps.

Angura also appealed to his constituents intending to contest various positions in the forthcoming elections to allow those currently in office to fulfill their mandates, rather than causing unnecessary confusion by campaigning prematurely, since the Electoral Commission has not yet declared the electioneering season.
