The recently started anti-poverty campaign by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been expanded to the Nakaseke and Nakasongola areas, the scene of the conflict that propelled him to power.
On Thursday 20th April 2023, President Museveni began the initiative in Luwero through the ONC Office, and residents were given chicks and goats to assist them escape poverty.
The government has taken this step, according to Hajjat Hadijja Namyalo, the head of the office of the National Chairman (ONC)-NRM SPA/PA, to ensure that services are provided to the public directly and in accordance with the President’s instructions.
She claimed that because of complaints from the populace that government-sent supplies had not reached the average person, her employer, the President, had instructed her to pick up and deliver the goods herself.
“When the president comes to your towns, I want you to show him the gifts from his office and explain how you have used them to fight poverty. Take careful care of these chicks and superior-breed goats; if you succeed, we will add more to you; if you fail, the opportunity will be taken from you and given to someone else,”she said.
Each household received 200 hens, 2 goats, 15 bags of her chicken feed, 40,000 in transportation, and treatment, according to ONC spokesperson Dr. Brenda Tibamwenda. She stated that in order to ensure correct handling and care, they will collaborate with the agriculture and animal departments in the Districts where they will distribute these products.
Residents who reaped the benefits of the initiative hailed the President and pledged to vote for him in the upcoming elections.
