Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has urged local leaders in Mubende District to abandon political rhetoric and focus on addressing community challenges effectively. Speaking at a meeting at the National Teachers College, she criticized leaders for neglecting their duties in favor of political slogans and called for action on pressing issues like land disputes, poor governance, and evictions.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja called on local leaders in Mubende District to abandon political rhetoric and focus on serving their communities effectively.

During a meeting held at the National Teachers College conference hall, Nabbanja criticized local leaders for neglecting their responsibilities in favor of empty political slogans.

“Many of you have failed to work for your people but are always making noise while praising President Museveni. I want to tell you that I am tired of hearing ‘Ooyeeeee.’ I only want results, and mind you, the President is also tired of it,” Nabbanja stated firmly.

The meeting, which involved Members of Parliament, the Security Committee, and other local officials, was centered on preparations for Liberation Day celebrations in Mubende District.

Nabbanja emphasized the need for leaders to focus on resolving critical issues such as land disputes, which she said were being exacerbated by some sub-county chairpersons.

“I am surprised that some sub-county chairpersons are failing to resolve disputes and, shockingly, are signing documents that endanger residents,” she said.

“Many people have been evicted because of this. You all recall what happened in Kirwanyi Sub- County, where Naava and her husband lost their lives in 2023. It all started with local leaders.”

Nabbanja also pointed out the failure of district leaders to supervise area land committees, which she accused of misleading the public.

She urged district chairpersons to intervene and replace incompetent committee members when necessary.

As part of her visit, Nabbanja pledged to engage directly with local leaders to empower them and improve governance.

She also assured Mubende residents that key infrastructure projects would be commissioned by President Museveni during the Liberation Day celebrations on January 26.

These include the Mubende Central Market, newly beautified Mayor’s Gardens, upgraded streets in the municipality, and expanded facilities at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.

Mubende District chairperson Michael Muhereza Ntambi appealed to the Prime Minister to ensure local concerns are addressed during the celebrations.

“Right Honorable Prime Minister, we know this is a national celebration, but at least we want our issues to be addressed before the President,” he said.

Steven Kasozi Ssemango, assistant Resident District Commissioner in charge of Buwekula County, commended Nabbanja for holding leaders accountable.

“We have seen many leaders focusing on politics instead of working for their people because they fear losing elections. I believe this has been a wake-up call for many,” Ssemango noted.

As Liberation Day approaches, Nabbanja’s stern message has left many reflecting on the need to prioritize service delivery over politics.
