Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, joined by ministers and KCCA officials, inspected progress on the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP). Covering key roads like Kyebando, Sentema, and Mutesa I, the visit aimed to monitor infrastructure improvements under the NRM Manifesto.

Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, accompanied by ministers and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials, toured several roads under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP) to assess progress on key infrastructure improvements.

The inspection included Kyebando Road, Sentema Road, Mutesa I Road, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Eighth Street, and roads within the Industrial Area. The Prime Minister was joined by Minister for Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister for Security Jim Muhwezi, State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye, State Minister for ICT Godfrey Kabyanga, and KCCA Acting Executive Director Frank Rusa.

The tour aimed to follow up on issues identified during a prior inspection and to monitor the project’s progress.

The KCRRP, a major initiative under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto, seeks to construct at least 70 kilometers of roads in Kampala, integrate 123 kilometers of non-motorized transport facilities like walkways and bicycle lanes, and signalize 22 junctions.

During the tour, Prime Minister Nabbanja praised the progress, calling it a testament to the NRM government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

“This project demonstrates that the NRM government is performing and delivering for the people. I urge contractors to work tirelessly to avoid delays,” she said.

Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala highlighted the importance of Mutesa I Road, a newly constructed route connecting Rubaga to Nakulabye, which had never been paved before.

“This road is a game-changer for access and mobility in the area,” he noted.

Security Minister Jim Muhwezi emphasized the link between improved infrastructure and enhanced security while urging road users, especially boda boda riders, to obey traffic rules.

State Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye expressed satisfaction with the progress on Sentema Road and called for the installation of streetlights and pedestrian walkways.

“This project fulfills a key NRM Manifesto promise, and we are committed to delivering even better infrastructure,” he said.

State Minister Godfrey Kabyanga noted the effective handling of utility line relocations, such as internet cables, to minimize disruptions.

KCCA Acting Executive Director Frank Rusa thanked the Prime Minister for her support and reiterated the authority’s commitment to timely project delivery.

“We are working diligently to transform Kampala’s infrastructure and mobility,” he assured.

The KCRRP is part of a broader effort to modernize Kampala’s Road network, with 40 road projects currently underway. The initiative underscores the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure and enhancing urban mobility in the capital.
