Prime Minister Nabbanja Wants TB & Leprosy Victims Given Special Status in Government Programs
The Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja has directed all Local Council leaders to identify Ugandans suffering from TB and Leprosy to be prioritised in all government programmes while speaking at the opening the 7th annual TB and Leprosy conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala yesterday 28th November 2024.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th annual TB and Leprosy conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala yesterday, November 28, 2024, Prime Minister Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja instructed all Local Council leaders to identify Ugandans who are afflicted with TB and Leprosy so that they can be given priority in all government programs.
The Prime Minister said these vulnerable Ugandans spend a lot of their household income on TB related care which erodes their economic gains.
Rt Hon Nabbanja made the remarks yesterday while speaking at the opening the 7th annual TB and Leprosy conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The Ministry of Health surveys conducted in 2022 indicated that 96,000 Ugandans are diagnosed with TB every year and experts from the Ministry of Health have revealed that 27 people die of TB in Uganda daily and the Prime Minister Nabbanja said this situation is worrying and require urgent attention.
During the conference, the Prime Minister who is the current End TB Champion in Uganda re-affirmed the National Resistance Movement government’s determination to end TB and Leprosy by 2030.
The Annual conference is running under the theme “Advancing Multi-Sectoral and Multi-Stakeholder Engagement and Accountability to End TB and Achieve Zero Leprosy in Uganda”.
