Senior Leader of ADF Killed in UPDF Operation against Rebels in Mwalika Valley
According to a statement by the UPDF deputy spokesperson, Deo Akiiki, a senior leader of the Amigo’s camp, Lubangakane, was killed on July 9, 2023, in Mwalika Valley. The operation against the rebels has been ongoing for the past three weeks after they attacked a secondary school in Lhubiriha Kasese on the Uganda-DRC border.
One of Amigo’s camp’s most senior leaders was killed on Sunday 9th July 2023 in Mwalika valley, according to a statement by UPDF deputy spokesperson Deo Akiiki.
“Lubangakane and three of his fighters were killed. A PMK Machine gun and an SMG were among the two weapons retrieved from the insurgents,” Akiiki said.
According to the army, rebels have been under attack for the past three weeks ever since they attacked a secondary school in Lhubiriha Kasese on the border between Uganda and the DRC.
According to the statement, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum, who is in charge of Operation Shujaa and the UPDF Mountain Division, confirmed the death of Lubangakane and the recovery of the two weapons.
“This morning at dawn, my forces under Makindye battalion made touch with an ADF daredevil commander named Lubangakane, who unfortunately perished. We won’t stop working to undermine the ADF,” Olum declared.
Olum further claimed that his men had so far recovered 10 guns in the past three weeks after moving his tactical headquarters to Kasindi in North Kivu, DRC.
“We are progressing incredibly well. The pace of the operation is quick; we find a weapon almost every two days, which is excellent,” he continued.
For trade and prosperity between the two nations to flourish, the joint UPDF-FARDC operation code-named “Operation Shujaa” that began in November 2021 aims to establish peace and stability in eastern DRC.
