Source Of the Nile Women in Agribusiness to Share Experiences in NAM Summit.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Uganda, scheduled for January 15th -20th, 2024, will include the Source of the Nile Women in Agribusiness Summit as a side event. Organized by the agriculture ministry, UN Women, and the NAM Secretariat, the session aims to showcase success stories of women in agribusiness, discuss policy needs, and inspire others.

Women in agribusiness are set to interact and share with experts in the agribusiness sector during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.The summit is expected to take place in Uganda from January 15-20, 2024, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

The summit, which is expected to attract heads of state and ministers from more than 130 countries, will run under the theme: Deepening Co-operation for Shared Global Affluence, according to foreign affairs ministry permanent secretary Vincent Bagiire.

In one of the flyers about the summit, the Source of the Nile Women in Agribusiness Summit, which will be a side event, is jointly organised by the agriculture ministry and the UN Women plus the NAM Secretariat.

Under this session, women leaders in agribusiness are expected to share success stories to inspire others and propose policy needs for the women to thrive in the agribusiness space.

In Uganda, about 70% of the land is used for farming, giving it a higher advantage in ensuring adequate food production for food security, economic stability and fostering self-sufficiency.

Other sessions during the summit include a ministerial conference to be held on January 17 and 18. The summit will be climaxed with the heads of state meeting on January 19-20 and will be concluded on the 21st with the opening up for other member countries to join the summit.

While speaking to the media in an earlier interview, President Yoweri Museveni said Uganda was selected to host the summit due to its neutral stand on issues on the international scene.

The summit is expected to further market Uganda as a top tourism destination.

Other activities include showcasing of several business and investment opportunities to delegates at the upcoming summit, by the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda.
