Speaker Anita Among tasks Government to Expedite Probe into Kasese School Attack
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, has directed government security agencies to expeditiously investigate and reprimand those behind the gruesome attack on Mpondwe -Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese District on Friday night during parliamentary session yesterday 20th June 2023
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, has instructed government security agencies to promptly investigate and act against the perpetrators responsible for the violent assault on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese District.
The attack occurred last Friday night and was characterized as gruesome. The directive aims to ensure that those responsible for the incident are identified, held accountable, and appropriately punished.
Speaker Among’s directive is also in line with the government’s pledge to trace and capture those behind the attack.
Following the attack, President Museveni ordered deployment of more troops on the Democratic Republic of Congo – Uganda border.
The Speaker of Parliament therefore directed the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to present to Parliament a statement detailing circumstances that led to the murder of over 40 students by suspected ADF assailants.
The Speaker agreed with Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda who refused the report which was about to be tabled by the Minister of State for Higher Education Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo about the situation in Kasese.
“We want to condemn this loss in the strongest terms and such acts should be investigated and the perpetrators should be brought to book,” Speaker Among directed during plenary on Tuesday 20th June 2023.
The attack, blamed on suspected Allied Defence Forces (ADF) rebels, left at least 42 people dead, of whom 37 were students.
