St. Mary’s SS Kitende Reigns Supreme in USSSA Boys Championship

The 2023 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) boys’ football championship was won by St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende and was played in the city of Fort Portal

The game’s only goal, was scored by Habib Oloya in the game’s 20th minute, inspired his team to defend the trophy in the eagerly awaited USSSA boys’ final contested at Nyakasura 1 on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

St Mary’s Kitende won the game 1-0 and won their 12th championship thanks to a valiant defence and strong numbers.

“I am honoured to have earned the prize. Every member of the team had to be courageous, tenacious, and a team player”, according to Daniel Male, head coach of St. Mary’s Kitende.

St. Mary’s SS Kitende has since been officially recognized as the record-holders with 12 trophies, followed by Kibuli SS with 11.

St. Mary’s SS Kitende, St. Henry’s College Kitovu, Royal Giants H.S., and Kibuli SS, the defending champions, are among the schools that will play for Uganda in the East African games scheduled to take place in Rwanda in June.

Allan Oyirwoth holds the MVP accolade at the 2023 USSSA Football Championship.

Individual Awards

MVP was Allan Oyirwoth of Amus College.

The best goalkeeper was Shamulan Kamya of Royal Giants High School Mityana.

The top scorer with 11 goals was Abdulnoor Nsereko of St Mary’s Boarding SS Kitende.
