State House Set to Host National Prayer Breakfast
The National Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for October 8, 2023, at State House Entebbe with the theme “Fear not, repent and serve the Lord.” All Members of Parliament are invited regardless of party affiliation.
Parliament will hold the National Prayer Breakfast on October 8, 2023, at State House Entebbe, under the theme, ‘Fear not, repent and serve the Lord’.
The prayer breakfast is available to all Members of Parliament, regardless of party affiliation, according to Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker.
The prayer breakfast’s goal, according to Tayebwa, is to “renew and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood with the faithful across the country.” It also provides an opportunity to pray for direction from God as we provide for the needs of the people.
However, several lawmakers did not like the location, claiming that it would probably deter opposition members from attending.
“Because of Covid-19, we have been hosting the National Prayer Breakfast at State House, but since the aim is to unite all people both within and out of government, I request that the venue is changes to
Kololo ceremonial grounds such that it is convenient for all people,” Michael Timuzigu (NRM, Kajara County).
The Chief Opposition Whip, John Baptist Nambeshe, said hosting the prayer breakfast at State House does not make it a national and unifying platform.
The Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, expressed concern with the requirement of taking Covid-19 tests, whenever legislators are to meet the President, arguing that the same is no longer a requirement elsewhere.
“People need to understand what the State House, the Presidency, and Covid-19 are all about. What difference does it make if I take a Covid test at the State House but not elsewhere?” Mpuuga remarked.
Margaret Muhanga, the state minister for Primary Healthcare, stated that Covid is still in us and that the Ministry of Health records 50 to 60 cases each week.
Muhanga added that the ministry’s Scientific Committee advised that every person who meets the President needs a Covid test for his safety.
“We need to protect the President as the Fountain of Honor we were advised by the committee to ensure everyone who meets him takes a Covid test,” said Muhanga.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa directed the minister to present an update on Covid-19.
