Turkish company Summa Construction, contracted to construct the Hoima stadium on Tuesday, January 23, inspected the site where the facility will be constructed as the stadium establishment process hits the second phase.

A team led by state sports minister Peter Ogwang inspected the 20-acre land in Kyarwiru, Hoima city, where a 20,000-seater stadium is to be constructed in preparation for hosting 2027 Africa Cup of Nations matches.

This included officials from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the National Council for Sports and the contractors to inspect the site.

The purpose of the visit was to enable the contractor to get the picture on the ground so that they can make a stadium design which will be later submitted to the government for approval.

Ogwang condemned Ugandans who are fighting the construction of this stadium, saying they have plans to construct already planned stadiums.

He requested total cooperation from local people and the authorities to ensure the stadium is constructed in the set time frame of 18 months.

Moses Magogo, the FUFA president, says they have completed the first phase of transferring the ownership of land titles to the government.

He added that the stadium will be key in the socio-economic transformation of the people in Bunyoro.

Hoima city Mayor Brian Kaboyo revealed that the city council waved off all charges on the construction of the stadium.

Hoima city resident commissioner Badru Mugabi said they will make sure the project is well monitored.

Construction of Hoima stadium is proposed to last for only 18 months as it is required to be ready by December 2025.
