The first graduates of the Presidential Initiatives at Lango Zonal Industrial Hub in Gulu District
During her speech, she emphasized the graduates that in order to forward Uganda’s socioeconomic development goal, the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, gave the youth the duty of making the Zonal Industrial Hub Initiative a success story.
On Tuesday January 3, 2023, Mrs. Jane Barekye the State House Comptroller awarded diplomas to 212 students who had successfully completed a free five-month skills development training program in a variety of occupational disciplines at the Acholi Zonal Industrial Hub. According to the State House Comptroller, President Museveni launched the Industrial Hubs programme nationwide to improve youth skill development and training.
As a result, Mrs. Jane Barekye pleaded with the recipients not to let President Museveni down by making the project a success. Mrs. Barekye urged, “Use the skills you have learned here to work and improve your livelihoods and that of your families.”
“Please don’t let the President down. Make sure that this is a success story by embracing the President’s goal for changing Uganda’s social and economic landscape,” she continued.
The comptroller instructed Acholi leaders to wait in response to their request to expand the number of people entering the industrial hub because State House has other industrial centers throughout the nation that they enable but the funds are still scarce.
The learners received Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) Level I Certificates after completing a free five-month training program that lasted from August 4th 2022 to December 23th 2022, according to Mr. Odong Jimmy, Manager of the Acholi Sub-region Presidential Industrial Hub.
According to Mr. Odong, the hub accepted 220 students from 10 administrative units, including Amuru, Nwoya, Omoro, Gulu, Gulu City, Pader, Lamwo, Agago, Kitgum, and Kitgum municipality, each of which was allocated a slot of 22.
He stated that out of the 212 participants (99 men and 113 women), 60 participated in tailoring, which included four men and 56 women, 35 men participated in carpentry, 58 participated in welding (two women and 56 men), and 59 participated in hairdressing (55 women and four men).
Mr. Odongo told Mrs. Barekye that due to the acquired skills, the beneficiaries are now ready to ready to propel socio-economic transformation of Acholi Sub Region and Uganda at large. He also commended President Museveni for the great initiative and requested him to increase the number of beneficiaries per intake to be increased from 220 to 500.
Mr. Echugor Charles, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner also commended President Museveni for imparting knowledge to the youth through trainings at Zonal Industrial Hubs. He also urged all leaders including his fellow RDCs and deputies to ensure that they work closely and ensure that the Presidential initiative is a success.
