Kabale And Rubanda Districts Receive A boat Ambulance Flagged Off By Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba commissioned an 8-seater motorboat ambulance to improve health services in Kabale and Rubanda districts on Lake Bunyonyi. The boat ambulance was handed to the Kabale district leadership led by the Kabale district deputy chief administrative officer Ritah Elizabeth Bwiringiro.
There was excitement and celebrations on Tuesday at Lake Bunyonyi in Kitumba sub county, Kabale district when General Muhoozi Kainerugaba unveiled an 8-seater motorboat ambulance that had been donated by the Ugandan government to improve health services in the area. The boat ambulance, which will help both Kabale and Rubanda districts, has arrived at the appropriate time, according to Dr. Gilbert Mateeka, the district health officer for Kabale.
“Due to lack of dependable transportation, providing health services in the 29 islands on Lake Bunyonyi and the surrounding settlements has been a major challenge. We are incredibly grateful to the government and its allies for providing us with this cutting-edge water transportation option”, Dr. Gilbert Mateeka said.
He added that the boat ambulance will assist them while travelling to offer services like immunization, and primary health; also transporting patients referred from Bwaama health centre III located on Bwaama Island to Kabale Hospital for specialized treatment.
The Kabale District chairman, Mr. Nelson Nshangabasheija Kato said that the ambulance will serve the community members that have been using the risky dugout canoes every time they attempt to seek health services at Bwaama Health Centre III. He stated that on average four people drown in Lake Bunyonyi each month while utilizing dugout canoes, which frequently capsize due to high lake wave.
