The Ministry of Works and Transport has launched the third phase of the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), a digital number plate project aimed at enhancing road safety and curbing vehicle-related crimes.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the rollout of the third phase of the country’s digital number plate project, beginning today. This marks a significant move towards improving road safety and curbing motor vehicle-related crimes.
The project, officially known as the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), is a partnership between the Ministry of Security, the Ministry of Works and Transport, and M/S Joint Stock Company Global Security (JSCGS). The initiative aims to modernise vehicle registration and monitoring.
The introduction of digital plates has been implemented in stages:
Phase One: Launched on 1st November 2023, focusing on government vehicles.
Phase Two: Began on 1st November 2024, covering motorcycles.
Phase Three: Starting today, it targets all private and public motor vehicles.
The Ministry has outlined several steps to manage the transition:
Completion of Previous Orders: GM Tumpeco Ltd and ABC Ltd will handle all orders for motor vehicle plates submitted by yesterday.
Grace Period for Collection: Motor vehicle owners and dealers have 30 days, until 5th February 2025, to pick up their plates for previous orders from Spear Motors (GM Tumpeco) or ABC Ltd.
New Orders: From today, all new plate orders will be managed by Joint Stock Company Global Security (JSCGS).
The Ministry has urged vehicle owners and dealers to collect their plates promptly during the grace period. Plates not collected by the deadline will require a new application under the updated system.
