The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has extended the application deadline for Census Supervisors and Enumerators to March 22, 2024. Digital applications are required, and recruitment will be overseen by district CAOs.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced an extension of the deadline for receiving applications to March 22, 2024.

In an official statement released on Wednesday 13th March 2024, UBOS articulated, “The notification serves to apprise the general populace of an amendment to extend the application deadline from March 15 to March 22, 2024.”

The forthcoming census is scheduled to commence on May 10 and will span a duration of 10 days.

There are employment opportunities available for Census Supervisors (18,483 positions) and Census Enumerators (114,460 positions), totalling 132,943 vacancies.

Prospective applicants are required to submit digital applications for these positions, with detailed instructions available on the UBOS website.

The recruitment of all census enumerators will be overseen directly by district chief accounting officers (CAOs).

Dr. Chris Mukiza, the executive director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), emphasized, “While the recruitment process will be centralized, district CAOs will be responsible for the actual selection.”

The roles being sought include supervisors and enumerators, who will serve at various administrative levels, from districts/city or town councils to parish and ward levels.

Candidates for these positions must demonstrate proficiency in the use of electronic devices, as the 2024 National Census will heavily rely on technology.

Additionally, candidates are required to possess smartphones, which can serve as backup devices in case of any issues with the electronic gadgets provided by the bureau.

Supervision of all recruited personnel will be directly overseen by parish chiefs and CAOs.

The most recent National Population and Housing Census was conducted in 2014, revealing a population of 34 million people in Uganda. With an estimated current population of 46 million, the upcoming census is essential for accurately assessing demographic trends and acquiring statistical data crucial for economic and social development planning.

This comprehensive exercise will enable the government to obtain vital information regarding the population distribution, assets, and demographics necessary for informed decision-making and effective governance.
