Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, has affirmed the Government’s strategic plans for economic growth.
“We have a robust plan for the future aimed at economic growth,” stated Dr. Ggoobi. He noted that while the current growth rate of 6% is commendable, the Government aspires for even higher growth.
Dr. Ggoobi made these remarks during the Annual Bankers’ Conference 2024, held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
In his dual role as the Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Ggoobi reassured the nation of Uganda’s economic stability and growth, emphasizing that the economy has fully recovered from the various shocks experienced over the past four years.
The Government, he said, aims to achieve double-digit economic growth within the next fifteen years. This ambitious target will be further detailed and implemented through the forthcoming National Development Plan IV (NDP IV).
Dr. Ggoobi also highlighted the Government’s commitment to climate change mitigation and adaptation. He mentioned that several frameworks are already in place, with the Ministry of Finance’s Climate Finance Unit collaborating with Development Partners to secure climate financing.
