Uganda Celebrates Africa Youth Day 2023
Uganda celebrates Africa Youth Day, focusing on empowering its youth through education, skills development, and entrepreneurship. The event highlights their commitment to the “One Million Next Level” initiative and unity among the youth. Development partners support this celebration.
As Uganda participates in the global celebration of Africa Youth Day, the Government expresses its primary commitment to empowering the youth to realize their full potential.
Today, November 1, 2023, this event will take place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, catering around the theme: “One Million Next Level is Knocking: Youth-led Movements that Transcend Borders.”
According to the state minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, the Government will intensify its efforts in the realms of education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and social innovations.
During a press briefing held at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala yesterday, the minister emphasized that the Government will also concentrate on youth empowerment through various ongoing programs, including the Youth Livelihood Programme and Presidential Zonal Industrial Hubs, among others.
This program is a strategic response to the prevailing high unemployment rate and youth poverty within the country.
“It serves as a prelude to the Africa Union’s 2024 theme, which focuses on building resilient and inclusive education,” she stated.
The minister underlined that this celebration aligns with President Yoweri Museveni’s dedication to engaging and supporting the youth, creating platforms for idea generation, and exploring diverse approaches to human capital development.
Last year, President Museveni initiated the “One Million Next Level” project and established a steering committee to oversee its implementation.
However, the minister mentioned that committee members will convene this week to strategize solutions for addressing educational gaps, youth employment, and overall well-being.
“Africa Youth Day 2023 promises to be a day of inspiration, knowledge-sharing, and fostering a sense of unity among the youth,” she expressed.
Furthermore, the minister disclosed that the celebration is organized with ongoing support from esteemed development partners, including the European Union in Uganda, UNFPA Uganda, Plan International, Youth for Tax Justice Network Uganda, Habitat for Humanity, and the African Youth Federation.
