Uganda Hosting the International Conference on Curriculum Development

Uganda is hosting the global conference on curriculum development in Kampala, at Speke Resort Munyonyo. From April 26 to April 27, 2023.

The International Conference on Curriculum Development is also in honour of the 50th anniversary of the National Curriculum Development Centre.The conference is organised under the theme: Reconceptualising Curriculum in the 21st Century for Socio-Economic Transformation.

The event will bring together stakeholders in education from around the world to discuss experiences and best practises on curriculum-related issues. The First Lady and minister of education and sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, is anticipated to serve as the event’s chief guest.  

The conference will help in promoting curriculum research and development nationally and globally. The is particularly crucial as Uganda executes numerous curriculum modifications at the various educational levels to meet the needs of the nation’s development and generate graduates that as fit for the job market.

The event was attended by several key personalities in the education sector, including Ministry of Education and Sports officials, publishers and development partners.

“The conference will tackle eight thematic areas, including the 21st-century curriculum (design and development, implementation, assessment and evaluation, innovations, skills and pedagogies); Localisation and decolonisation of the curriculum in Africa; the ICT revolution in education; and Competency-based curriculum development and implementation,” said Grace Baguma, the director National Curriculum Development Centre.

Dr. Grace Baguma also said a nation’s quality education and training system depends heavily on its curriculum and in order to guarantee that training is relevant to Uganda’s needs for human capital, the National Curriculum Development Centre regularly analyses curricula and teaching aids.
