Uganda Prisons Launch Quarterly Clean Up Drive
The Luzira Group of Prisons has launched a quarterly clean-up drive aimed at promoting proper waste management and reducing littering in the barracks area yesterday 21st July 2024.

Yesterday, July 21, 2024, marked the beginning of the Luzira Group of Prisons’ quarterly clean-up campaign, which aims to encourage appropriate waste management and lessen littering in the barracks area.
The drive, which was launched by Mr. Xavier Francis Elubu, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (Regional Prisons Commander – Kampala Extra Region) on behalf of the Commissioner General of Prisons intended to sensitize prisons staff and their spouses on the importance of living smart and contributing to the smart city agenda.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Elubu appreciated the efforts of all staff and emphasized the importance of smartness and professionalism in their respective line of duty. He highlighted the need for prisons officers to lead by example and promote cleanliness and hygiene within the barracks and beyond.
The clean-up drive, which will be conducted quarterly, will focus on sensitizing staff and spouses on proper waste disposal, reducing littering, and promoting smart living practices.
The initiative is part of the Uganda Prisons Service’s efforts to contribute to the smart city agenda and promote a clean and healthy environment.
In addition to the clean-up exercise, over 100 trees were planted during the launch, marking an important step towards environmental conservation.
More trees are expected to be planted in subsequent campaigns, further solidifying
Uganda Prisons commitment to sustainability. The launch was held at the Youth Centre in Luzira and was attended by prisons staff, spouses, and other stakeholders.

The event included a clean-up exercise, sensitization sessions, health camps and a call to action for all staff to embrace the smart living practices.
