Kampala, the vibrant capital of Uganda, is gearing up to host one of the most significant events in the international peace calendar – The Global Peace Festival. Organized annually by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), the festival has been a beacon of peace, unity, and progress. GPF, known for its non-partisan, non-sectarian, and non-profit approach, champions an innovative, values-centric methodology to achieve global harmony.

The festival’s theme for the Kampala edition revolves around the promotion of African extended family values for peace and sustainable development in Uganda. With the continent’s rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and family ties, the festival seeks to harness these values in advancing peace and understanding in the African context and beyond.

The Ugandan government, recognizing the festival’s immense potential for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, has thrown its weight behind the event. Peace Regis Mutuuzo, the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, articulated the government’s enthusiasm and commitment to sponsor the three-day extravaganza.

In a collaborative spirit, the Minister welcomed the proposal to host the Global Peace Festival in Kampala, slated for next year in May 2024. She assured the festival organizers of the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development’s unwavering commitment to spearheading event preparations. The festival aims to promote global harmony and cooperation through evangelism. Minister Mutuuzo also encouraged religious institutions to elevate women to leadership roles, furthering gender equality within their congregations.

The festival is poised to be a grand affair, with over 30,000 attendees from around the globe. The gathering will not only showcase Uganda’s cultural wealth and familial ties but also highlight the universality of familial values that cut across geographical and cultural borders.

David Caprara, Strategic Advisor of the Global Peace Initiative, expressed solidarity with Uganda’s stance on preserving its cultural identity, noting that this sentiment transcended international boundaries. He announced plans to collaborate with the Ugandan embassy in New York to foster a unified African stance on issues like homosexuality.

Jinman Kwak, President of the Family Peace Association International, heaped praise on Uganda for its steadfast commitment to safeguarding traditional family values, emphasizing their divine purpose. He further emphasized the crucial role of the Family Peace Association in amplifying this message, striving for a world of tranquillity through God-centred families. Their mission remains steadfast: to uplift humanity by enhancing spiritual consciousness via universal principles embedded in God-centred families and marriages.

As Kampala prepares to roll out the red carpet for peace advocates from across the world, the Global Peace Festival promises to be a confluence of cultures, ideas, and shared values. With Uganda at the helm this year, the festival is set to make waves, resonating its message of peace and unity through the timeless essence of the African extended family.
