Uganda She Cranes’ Journey to South Africa for the Netball World Cup
In an unprecedented moment for netball, the She Cranes of Uganda were flagged off to South Africa, which is set to stage the first-ever Netball World Cup on the African continent. The tournament will commence in Cape Town from July 28 and continue until August 6.
The She Cranes have tirelessly and skilfully earned their rightful place on the global netball stage. Their remarkable rise in the sport stands as testament to their dedication, talent, and spirit. As they represent Uganda at the first-ever African-hosted Netball World Cup, we proudly stand with them, cheering on every pass, shot, and victory.
Grouped in Group D, the She Cranes will compete against New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago, and Singapore. Uganda, currently ranked number 8 in the world, will kick-start its campaign against Singapore in a Group D clash on July 28, followed by a game against the reigning champions, New Zealand, the following morning. The She Cranes will then round off the preliminary stage against Trinidad and Tobago on July 30.
Ahead of the main event, the team’s build-up games against Barbados and Scotland in Cape Town will help determine the starting line-up. These matches provide a crucial opportunity for the players to hone their skills, develop on-court chemistry, and acclimatize to the playing conditions.
This sporting Endeavor has drawn considerable support from various partners. The She Cranes’ official partners, including Plascon, Uganda Airlines, and Gal Sports Betting, have stepped in to provide substantial backing. The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has also committed to the cause by sponsoring selected journalists, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the She Cranes’ journey throughout the World Cup.
