Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya Join Forces in Bid to Host AFCON 2027
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda submitted a Joint Bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. In the “Pamoja” proposal, Kenya has joined forces with its neighbors Tanzania and Uganda to bring the continental Africa Cup of Nations to East Africa for the first time ever.
The joint bid for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will be up against three other bids of Algeria, Botswana, and Egypt, who have also expressed interest in hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
For the three East African countries to successfully win the proposal to host the biggest football competition on the continent, the President of Kenya William Ruto asked for collaboration from his counterparts from Tanzania and Uganda.
“We hope that our joint bid will inspire all of our sides to perform above and beyond their previous accomplishments,” continued H.E Ruto.
“We also intend to launch a compelling bid that will succeed in winning us this critical opportunity to make Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania the epicentres of regional and continental footballing resurgence,” he added.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) verified receiving offers from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Final bids for Member Associations will be accepted on May 23, 2023, and inspection visits will take place from June 1 to July 15, 2023.
The final bidding documents that CAF looks at include; The hosting agreement, host cities agreement, government guarantees, and other bid documents, which should all be properly signed.
According to the assessment on stadium standards published by CAF in February, the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam is the only venue in all East Africa that is currently capable of hosting continental matches.
CAF stipulates that the locations of any nation hosting its games must be close to an airport, it must also be near to a level 5 hospital and a five-star hotel. Additionally, each location must have three top-notch training facilities nearby.
