Uganda Tourism Board Opens CEO Application Process

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is seeking applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a role currently held by Lilly Ajarova. The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has announced an opening for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), as advertised in the Daily Monitor on January 7, 2025. The role, currently held by Lilly Ajarova since January 10, 2019, is central to shaping the organisation’s strategic direction and advancing Uganda’s tourism sector.

UTB is inviting applications from highly qualified professionals with a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields. Candidates must have at least seven years of experience in tourism, hospitality, or marketing, including senior management roles. Extensive knowledge of the tourism industry—spanning marketing, product development, and stakeholder engagement—is crucial. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a results-oriented approach are essential qualities.

The CEO will be based at UTB Headquarters in Kampala, reporting to the Board of Directors, and will oversee key personnel, including the Deputy CEO, managers, and Senior Internal Auditor. Responsibilities include implementing UTB’s Strategic Plan, promoting Uganda’s tourism potential, building partnerships, managing finances, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

The role requires frequent travel and extended working hours, underscoring the commitment needed to advance Uganda’s competitiveness as a tourist destination.

Applications, open to Ugandan citizens, must include a detailed CV, academic certificates, transcripts, testimonials, proof of citizenship, and three referees’ contacts. Submissions should reach the Chairman of the UTB Board of Directors by 5:00 PM on January 27, 2025.
