Uganda’s Chelangat Wins Sevilla Half Marathon

Uganda’s Rebecca Chelangat secured victory at the 30th edition of the Sevilla Half Marathon on January 26, 2025. She completed the race at 1:07:18, setting a new course record by beating the previous one by 41 seconds.

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) congratulated her on their official X handle.
“Congratulations to Uganda’s Rebecca Chelangat for winning the Sevilla Half Marathon earlier today with an impressive time of 1:07:18. Kudos also to Annet Chemengich Chelangat 🇺🇬 for finishing strong in 2nd place with 1:08:12. Great performances that continue to make Uganda proud,” UAF posted.
This performance also established a new personal best for Chelangat, surpassing her previous record of 1:10:34, which she achieved in Thailand.
This victory also came with a financial reward of 2,000 Euros and an additional 1,000 Euros for breaking the course record.
Her countrymate Annet Chemengich Chelangat finished second with a time of 1:08:17, making it a notable day for Ugandan athletes at the event. Ethiopia’s Yalganesh Eskamech Gedefa took third place with a time of 1:08:50.
Chelangat is the reigning national champion in the 10,000-meter. Her success has not only gathered attention for her individual talent but also for its potential to inspire a new generation of athletes in Uganda.
