The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba, describes the opening of a new chancery in Kinshasa as a pivotal moment in strengthening Uganda’s diplomatic ties with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Acknowledging historical ties, he applauds Presidents Museveni and Tshisekedi.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba, has characterized the inauguration of a new chancery in Kinshasa as a pivotal moment in fortifying and intensifying the diplomatic relations that Uganda is embarking upon with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“The establishment of the new chancery signifies the commencement of a fresh chapter in Uganda’s diplomatic presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With this chancery, we have a strategic platform to bolster collaboration, deepen partnerships, and achieve substantial outcomes that mutually benefit our nations,” remarked Minister Mulimba.
He emphasized, “This new chancery also stands as a testament to the warm and cordial bilateral relations between our two countries. Let us seize this opportunity to cultivate dialogue, nurture diplomacy, and devise innovative solutions contributing to the realization of socio-economic transformation for both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
Minister Mulimba conveyed these sentiments during the official opening of the new chancery in Kinshasa on Saturday, 18th November. He underscored the extensive history and shared destiny of the two nations, emphasizing the significance of regional stability and economic cooperation for mutual prosperity.
Acknowledging the efforts of Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Felix Tshisekedi in fostering bilateral ties, Minister Mulimba expressed gratitude for the allocation of necessary funds by President Museveni and the Parliament, particularly the Committee on Foreign Affairs, which he chairs, for the successful completion of the project.
Uganda’s Ambassador to DRC, Farid Kaliisa, described the new chancery as a symbol of the enduring friendship between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. After the decision to normalize diplomatic relations in 2007, the dilapidated state of Uganda’s chancery in Kinshasa prompted the construction of a new building, completed from June 2021 to August of the current year.
Kaliisa thanked the Government of Uganda for providing the essential resources for the project, highlighting that the new chancery is more than an office space. It represents the profound and lasting ties between Uganda and the DRC a space for people from both nations to come together, exchange ideas, and build partnerships.
