Uganda is preparing to host the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in 2024, as well as the Group of 77 (G77) Summit meetings, both scheduled to take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
In presiding over the three-day training in Kampala on Wednesday, November 2, 2023, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vicent Bagiire, emphasized that the induction program aims to ensure that officers are well-informed about Uganda’s readiness to host these significant summits.
Uganda’s affiliation with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) dates back to its admission during the 2nd Summit of Heads of State and Government in 1964, held in Cairo, Egypt. Starting in 2024, Uganda will assume the Chairmanship of NAM for the period of 2024-2027.
The Group of 77 (G77) represents the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries within the United Nations. Since then, the group has expanded to encompass 134 countries, including China.
Member countries of the G77 encompass a wide range, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, China, Colombia, Comoros, Congo, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, DR Congo, and Djibouti.
