UPDF Engineers to Construct First University in Bunyoro Region

The government of Uganda has tasked the UPDF Civil Engineers Brigade with constructing Bunyoro Region’s first university in Hoima city. Introduced to the site on August 7, 2024, the UPDF team, led by Lt Col Peter Kidemuka, will begin with project design, site clearing, and infrastructure setup.

The government of Uganda has contracted the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) army’s Civil Engineers Brigade to construct the first ever university in the Bunyoro Region.

The contractor on August 7, 2024, introduced to the site where the public university is slated to be constructed in Hoima city.

Bulera Core Primary Teachers College (PTC) offered 20 out of its 42 acres of land for the establishment of the university for which the Banyoro have been agitating for decades.

The UPDF engineers led by Lt Col Peter Kidemuka, were introduced to the site in Hoima city West Division by the Hoima Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Mr. Badru Mugabi, and the college administrators.

Speaking at the site, Lt Col Kidemuka said that the civil engineers will start with the project design, site clearing, working on the road to the site and extending water and power to the site among others.

The soldier added that surveyors and consultants have also been positioned at the site to make drawings, the design and develop the Bill of Quantities (BOQs) for submission to the relevant offices.

He revealed that the ground breaking ceremony will be held on November 15, 2024 presided over by a yet to be confirmed chief guest.

Col Kidemuka said that they have been given a timetable to follow adding that two weeks from now, survey work and drawings will be done concurrently with the extension of water and electricity to the site.

Mr. Mugabi, the Hoima RCC said that the Engineering Brigade personnel were taken to the site to allow them start planning for whatever is required to see construction work begin.

Mr. Tom Mbaziira, the Manager National Water and Sewerage Corporation Hoima Area and Mr. Ronald Benon Bisingirwa, the UMEME Network Engineer in-charge of Hoima and Masindi, said they will work closely with the contractor to ensure the success of the project.
