UPDF Releases Shortlist for 2024 Recruitment
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has announced the shortlisted candidates for the 2024 recruitment. The lists are accessible online and at regional offices, with the recruitment process running from July 1 to July 14, 2024.
Following a successful application submission exercise for candidates aspiring to join the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the UPDF has released the shortlist of selected applicants.
Col. Deo Akiiki, the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson, announced on Monday, June 17, 2024, that the lists are now available online and at the offices of the Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) across various regions.
The lists can be accessed on the official UPDF website.
The shortlisted recruits include the following numbers from specific districts: Moroto (48), Oyam (140), Kasese (264), Tororo (116), Masaka District (8), Masaka City (47), Nakawa Division (Kampala City) (92), Kampala Central (Kampala City) (36), and Kitgum (62).
“The candidates are reminded that the recruitment exercise will commence on July 1, 2024, and conclude on July 14, 2024, at various recruitment centers as previously announced. The Ministry of Defence and the UPDF family wish all candidates success,” said Col. Akiiki.
Recruitment Process
The procedure for the UPDF recruitment exercise is as follows: aspiring candidates must obtain recommendations from the LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO, and DISO. Thereafter, they submit their application forms to the RDC office, where they are registered and await collection by UPDF collection teams. These teams submit the forms to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management office, which then compiles a shortlist.
The list of successful applicants is published/displayed on district/city notice boards, informing the shortlisted applicants to appear at designated recruitment centers for the final interviews.
The recruitment was conducted based on the projected population figures of each district/city of Uganda, forming the basis for recruitment quotas.
Eligibility criteria include being a Ugandan citizen with an original national identity card, being fit and ready to undergo medical and body fitness tests, being an adult male or female aged 18–22 years, having completed formal education up to S.4 (UCE) between 2020 and 2023, and having passed English and Mathematics.
Additionally, application letters must be duly signed by LCI, LCII, and LCIII chairpersons, as well as GISO or DISO and RDC. Aspirants are required to be residents of the area, disciplined, and have no criminal record.
