UPDF Roots For Agriculture Mechanisation in Latest Countrywide Tour
The Commandant National Defence College – Uganda, Maj Gen Francis Okello has re-echoed the call for the mechanisation of agriculture as a means of boosting food in Uganda both for local consumption and export given that agriculture is the backbone of Uganda.
On Monday, November 6, 2023, at Musubi Avocado Farm in Mayuge District, the Commandant of the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U), Maj Gen Francis Okello, reiterated the call for the mechanization of agriculture as a way to increase food production in Uganda for both domestic consumption and export.
He made the remarks at Musubi Avocado Farm, Uganda’s leading Avocado growing and producing farm that is located in Mayuge District where he led a team of course participants from NDC-U who are on a domestic study tour.
“The President and Commander-in-Chief H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has always emphasized on mechanisation of agriculture for better yields and increased production for both consumption and commercial purposes as opposed to subsistence farming. It’s therefore incumbent upon us as leaders to come up with a better strategy to ensure this comes to reality,” said Maj Gen Okello.
He said that Musubi farm was chosen as a case study to enable course participants to have an appreciation of reality to conduct research and come up with a better strategy for implementation.
On Monday 6th November 2023, NDC-U commenced a 12-day domestic study tour across the country for course participants. The team will cover parts of Eastern, Northern, Central and Western Uganda
