The Nyakayojo Health Center III in Mbarara is set to receive shs 2.4 billion upgrade to elevate its status to a Health Center IV. This upgrade includes constructing a three-storeyed building featuring a state-of-the-art theatre, treatment rooms, and office space. The Uganda People’s Defense Forces Engineering Brigade will undertake the construction, starting with a shillings 982 million ground floor in a four-month first phase.
To upgrade Nyakayojo from health center III to IV, Mbarara city leaders have launched the construction of a three-storeyed building that will accommodate a state-of-the-art theatre, treatment rooms, and office space.
Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade is to undertake the construction works at shillings 2.4b.
The three-phase project starts with the ground floor which will cost shillings 982m in only four months.
During the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday (July 2) Assy Abirebe, Mbarara city town clerk said that when completed, the health center will be elevated to a health center IV status since it will be able to carry out operations especially for pregnant mothers while giving birth.
“We are going to have two doctors at this facility to enable our theatre to function and reduce the burden of mothers congesting at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and Mbarara city health centre IV,” said Abirebe.
On why they opted for the UPDF Engineering brigade Abirebe revealed that they (UPDF) offered the lowest rates and delivered quality work in real-time.
“If we were to go through the whole process of procurement, this project would have gone to about shs4bn, we are grateful to the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni for allowing UPDF to implement some of the projects in local governments” applauded Abirebe.
Maj. Francis Rugasira, in charge of legal affairs in the UPDF Engineering brigade, told Mbarara city leadership and the residents to be rest assured of quality, however, he opined that quality work of any building depends on the quality of materials used.
“Given the fact that we are not going to import materials and that the residents are the ones going to supply us, they should not compromise the quality of sand and bricks.” Argued Rugasira.
