UPDF’s Housing Revolution – 60 New Housing Units Commissioned
Major General Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander of the Land Forces, commissioned 60 housing units in Matany Sub- County, Napak District, as part of a larger initiative to provide 30,000 housing units for the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.
The Deputy Commander of the Land Force, Major General Francis Takirwa, officially inaugurated a total of sixty (60) housing units at the 403 Infantry Brigade Headquarters located in Matany Sub-county, Napak District.
These housing units, the construction of which commenced on May 25, 2022, are part of a comprehensive initiative to provide thirty thousand housing units aimed at addressing the accommodation and welfare needs of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.
Major General Takirwa articulated that the development of these housing units aligns with the vision of the Commander-in-Chief to ensure that all security personnel in the UPDF, Police, and Prisons live in decent conditions. He emphasized the transition from traditional living arrangements to more modern ones.
He urged the soldiers to take responsibility for maintaining and preserving these houses and to be vigilant in matters of hygiene and sanitation.
Furthermore, Major General Takirwa offered valuable counsel to the soldiers, emphasizing the importance of financial discipline and prudent retirement planning, encouraging them to allocate funds for future income-generating activities.
Brigadier General Busizoori, the Deputy Commander of the 3 Division, underscored the significance of enhancing the welfare of soldiers as a top priority for the UPDF. This initiative is designed to elevate the quality of life for the troops.
He commended the Engineers Construction Regiment of the 3 Division for their exceptional work and encouraged them to maintain their unwavering commitment to professional standards.
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Chemusto, Colonel Richard Butungi, Lieutenant Colonel Morris Twongyeirwe, and Major Kizito Mulwana, among others.
