Vice President Alupo presided over the graduation of 10,000 patriots from Soroti City, who had completed a one-week patriotism training organized by the President’s Office. These patriots, drawn from 14 schools, were encouraged to embody discipline, fear of God, and hard work. They were also urged to avoid detrimental behaviors and to show love to one another. The training emphasized the NRM government’s core principles: nationalism, pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation.

Vice President Jessica Alupo hands over certificates to students who completed patriotism training at Soroti Sports Ground on Sunday.

The patriots, drawn from 14 government and private schools in the city, had undergone one week of training on patriotism organised by the Office of the President under the Patriotism Secretariat.

According to Ian Gumisiriza Jeremiah, the principal communications officer in the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, who represented the commissioner of patriotism in the President’s Office, Hellen Seku, the patriots were urged to live with the fear of God, discipline, and hard work to be successful in life.

Gumisiriza encouraged the patriots to show love to one another as the Holy Bible commands but to avoid behaviours that would ruin their future.

Soroti Resident City Commissioner Peter Pex Paak stated that the patriots were taught the ideology of the NRM government, which includes its four core principles: nationalism, pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation.

Dr Kenneth Clement Ongalo Obote, the Teso affairs state minister, commended the Office of the President for implementing such a program to help young people understand issues of governance in their country.

While passing out the patriots, VP Alupo asked the education stakeholders in the Teso sub-region to adhere to the principle of education for all.

Alupo directed all education institutions in the sub-region to ensure they create a conducive learning environment for learners as a way to reduce school dropouts.

She emphasised that the government insists all Ugandans must attain quality free Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE).

Alupo cautioned school head teachers to stop sending learners back home because of school fees charged illegally by the parent-teacher associations (PTA), noting that it disrupts learning.

The Vice President further asked secondary schools to produce quality UCE and UACE students who can join tertiary institutions for courses that will earn them jobs. She implored the schools to ensure they complete the curriculum in time to allow students to do revisions before sitting for final examinations.

Additionally, Alupo challenged the newly passed-out patriots to make the best use of the skills acquired during the training to become disciplined, God-fearing citizens who love their nation, Uganda.

She also warned civil servants and those holding public offices to stop misappropriating public funds meant for service delivery to the people.
